After 8 crazy drama-filled years of dopplegangers, Hybrids, hunters, Heretics, death, resurrections, and so forth, The Vampire Diaries has come to an end. On Wednesday, Feb.9, the cast and crew tearfully celebrated their final day on set, complete with cake and booze.
The stars took to social media to share their thoughts and appreciation:

That’s an official wrap on the Vampire Diaries. From the 1st day to the last night… I was the last to leave our stages early this morning, not a single crew member, not a sound. To the fans, thank you for it all we would have never been on this journey without you. To all who made this show possible- we did it. 8 years, wow. Thank you all. Love, Ian
That’s a wrap for Alaric!
Thank you supporting us along this crazy journey. It’s been a real honor.
I love you all!

And show creator Julie Plec shared a pic of the amazing cake:

Former leading lady Nina Dobrev left the show 2 years ago, but returned for the final episode, titled “I Was Feeling Epic.” She shared her gratitude for her time on the show in a note to fans: “I grew up on this show and am eternally grateful for all the opportunities it has given me.”
When a beloved show ends, we always feel a lot of anxiety as we spend our time wondering how it’s going to finish. We have a ton of questions. Important questions. Questions like, “Who’s going to die?, Who’s going to end up together? Will they ever be happy?” and, perhaps most importantly, “Where the hell am I going to get my Damon’s devilish side-grin fix now?!”
We will have answers to (most) of these questions on March 10th.
