Joanne Bolser, an Alabama middle school teacher is suspended after handing out a controversial math test. The test included questions about pimps, hoes, cocaine and gangs amongst other things.
The test is known online as “LA Math Proficiency Test.” It is a piece of online humour not actually meant to be distributed to students. One would think it would obviously be for humour, but Bolser is not the only teacher to get into trouble for (stupidly) using it.
This joke test is said to have been in circulation since the mid-1980’s, and has seen a few revisions.
One question on the test asks: “Raul wants to cut the pound of cocaine he bought for $40,000 to make 20% profit. How many one ounce bags will he need to obtain the 20% profit?”
Another asks: “Hector knocked up 6 girls in his gang. There are 27 girls in the gang. What percentage of the girls in the gang has Hector knocked up?”
Some other hot topics in the test include Desmond stealing cars, Dwayne pimping out 3 hoes to pay for his crack habit, Pedro getting 6 years in prison for murder and finding out how many drive-bys Ramon can do with his AK-47 before he has to steal more ammunition and reload.
There is absolutely no reason that material like this should be given to students of any age let alone a class of 8th graders, but apparently it’s “obvious humour” isn’t so obvious to some clueless teachers. I mean, even the test’s header furthers the joke by asking for the student’s gang affiliation! Perhaps a career change is in order?
What would you do if your child got a test like this at school?
