Joss Whedon Will Direct Batgirl

It was announced today that none other than Joss Whedon will write, direct and produce the new Batgirl movie for Warner Bros. and DC Films.

It couldn’t be a more perfect fit, in my opinion, as Whedon has a history of producing strong female characters (ahem, Buffy).

He also directed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron for Marvel Studios, but now he’s crossed over to the competition.

The first appearance of Batgirl in the comics was in 1967 as Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon.

It has been confirmed that she will be Batgirl in the new movie. The question is, however, who will play her??

There are a few names in the running, including Rosario Dawson, who voiced Batgirl in The LEGO Batman Movie, Camila Mendes, who plays  Riverdale’s Veronica Lodge, Teen Wolf‘s Holland Roden, and Chloe Bennet—she may currently be team DC as Daisy “Skye” Johnson aka Quake, but if the director can cross over, one can wonder/hope that an actress can too.

My money’s on Mendes. But I may be biased as I’ve only seen her bad-assness at work. What do you think?
