With Game of Thrones returning to our living room in July, there’s much speculation as to what might happen in the final two seasons of the show. Creators are trying to wrap up the storyline, so who knows? First, an announcement was made stating that MMA champ Conor McGregor would be joining the cast.

Now the show’s creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have announced that singer Ed Sheeran would be joining the cast in season 7.

The announcement was made at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas which was moderated by Thrones actresses Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner.

Benioff told the audience, “For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie [Williams], and this year we finally did it.”

Although we don’t know what Ed’s role will be on the show or how many episodes he will be in, a lot of people seem to be pretty damn excited.

Sheeran took to Twitter to confirm his role by writing “guess the cats out the bag…” and posting a link to an article about his casting on Game of Thrones.

Sheeran has been doing pretty well as of late—he just destroyed the UK’s billboard records after doing 672,000 in album sales and landing all 16 of the tracks from his new album Divide in the top 20. No artist has even come close to doing this which I’m sure allows Ed to sleep easy at night.

Only Adelle’s 25, which did 800,000 in opening week sales, and Oasis’ Be Here Now (696,000) have ever had better openings on the UK charts.

Just remember Ed winter is coming!
