Conor McGregor WILL Be In Game Of Thrones

With only two seasons remaining of the record-breaking show Game of Thrones, producers obviously wanted to add some firepower to the lineup. And that firepower has a name: Conor ‘Notorious’ McGregor.

“He was headhunted as it were by HBO, as one of the Game of Thrones directors is a huge UFC fan. They believed that he would be a perfect fit for the show,” a source told Belfast Live.

Conor is currently taking a break from the UFC as he awaits the birth of his first child with long-time girlfriend Dee Devlin, expected in May of 2017.

UFC president Dana White has said that break will last 10 months.

Conor has fought 4 times in the past year, all of which were extraordinary. He fought Jose Aldo on December 12th of 2015 to win the Featherweight title with a KO in only 13 seconds. This was the fastest finish in a title bout.

Then he had back-to-back fights with Nate Diaz. The first bout McGregor receives his first loss in the UFC via a second round submission. In the second fight he avenged that loss with a majority decision made by the judges. This fight also set the UFC record in Pay Per View buys at 1,650,000.

Finally, on November 12th, 2016, he beat Eddie Alvarez in a second round KO to become Lightweight Champion at UFC 205. This made “The Notorious” Conor McGregor the first simultaneous champion in UFC history.

On November 27th, 2016, Conor was stripped of his Featherweight title due to inactivity, as it hadn’t been defended in almost a year. This made Jose Aldo champion once again.

The Notorious has been the most active fighter in the UFC in recent years, so I believe this is a much-deserved break, allowing the champ to focus on his family and the birth of his child.

McGregor was first linked to the Game of Thrones back in 2015 when a video surfaced on YouTube of his sparing with Hafthor Bjornsson, who plays ‘The Mountain.”

David Benioff and D.B Weiss, the creators of Game of Thrones, were on the UFC Unfiltered Podcast when they openly shared their love for the Irishman:

“We stayed up with a group of the actors until 6am in the morning watching the McGregor-Aldo fight in Vegas this past December. We talk more about MMA than we do Game of Thrones,” the pair explained. “Every day we get home from shooting we’ll just sit around drink beer and watch Fight Pass.”

McGregor lives in Dublin, Ireland where he also does much of his training. He also has fight camps in Iceland. Fight fans may remember when he was pulled from UFC 200 for failing to fulfill his media obligations for his rematch against Nate Diaz. He refused to leave his camp in Iceland to return to the USA for a press conference promoting the fight.

It just so happens the Game of Thrones is filmed in Northern Ireland and Iceland making his training schedule fit well with the shows filming.
