Newly-crowned bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt graciously handed his championship belt over to 10-year-old Maddux Maple within seconds of receiving it last night at UFC 207.

Maple was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 5-years-old. He is now in remission.

The two met and formed a bond years ago, making a simple pact: if Maple promised to beat cancer, Garbrandt promised to make it the UFC.

When they met, Maple had been battling leukemia for 3.5 years and Garbrandt was enduring some tough times himself. When he heard about Maple, he reached out to him and the duo have remained close since.

‘”He brought redirection to my life. I’m finally able to do this for him,” Garbrandt stated.

They both needed some positivity, and since then have leaned on each other for support. It’s definitely worked!
